The Lakeview Restaurant
By Shelley D. Zajaceskowski
Located
at 357 Lakeview Road just outside the village of Broadalbin,
the Lakeview Restaurant owned and operated by the Bob
and Carol Neelis sends everyone their warmest welcome
to the Lakeview. Here you can relax and enjoy their casual
atmosphere year round with a courtesy dock offered on
the Sacandaga Lake. In the wintertime there are the snowmobilers
that stop by regularly for a bite to eat. They can pull
their sleds right up to the front door and step on in
for a delicious, warm and affordable meal.
My
mother and I went out to the Lakeview Restaurant one
gloomy, Sunday afternoon in October and had lunch. As
soon as I walked in I noticed how pretty it was decorated.
In the corner of the entranceway set a Christmas tree
decorated for the harvest season. There was a nice bar
area with high-backed bar stools to relax in and enjoy
a drink or just hang out with friends. In the one corner
of the bar area they had a big screened TV. Hanging above
throughout the restaurant are tiny white lights intertwined
in faux green pine garland. Booths along one sidewall
with glass covered tables and attractive pink and maroon
cloths adorned the place. Tables and chairs were available
for seating in the main dining area and gave the feeling
of a comfortable place to be in. Off toward the back
set a wood stove offering an ambiance of warmth and friendliness.
I had a Chicken Caesar Wrap that came with a generous
helping of fries and a slice of garlic pickle on the
side. My mother had the Buffalo Chicken Wrap with the
same fries and pickle both very reasonably priced.
Like
their ad says “The place to be to enjoy our home
style meals” is true for the Lakeview Restaurant.
Soups, salads, wraps, pizza, hot and cold sandwiches,
poultry, beef, pork, seafood and Italian specialties
complete their dinner menu. They also offer patrons a
delicious dessert menu consisting of, specialty pies
and cakes, New York style cheesecake, my favorite Lemon
Meringue pie and ice cream sundaes anyway you like them!
Also available are sugar-free pies and ice creams to
round out your meal. On Thursday nights the Lakeview
offers a “German Night.” They serve many
favorites of German style foods. That night is a big
hit for the locals.
I
read on a menu that they also are booking for catering
and special occasions. They are open Monday, Wednesday,
Thursday and Friday from 4 –9 for dinners. They
are also open on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 9 p.m.
for lunches and dinners. Lunches served Thursday and
Friday from 11 a.m. on. Closed on Tuesdays. If you need
directions or have questions give Bob or Carol a call
at: 883-3337. They will be glad to help you and of course
tell them the “Shelley Z.” recommended them!
It is a family restaurant with a friendly atmosphere.
