From the Fulton County Sherrif:
PLEASE SHARE
PLEASE AVOID RIDING SNOWMOBILES, ATV’S OR OTHER ACTIVITY ON THE GREAT SACANDAGA LAKE TODAY AS WE ARE EXPERIENCING OPEN AREAS OF WATER, BREAKS IN THE ICE AND ICE HEAVES WHICH MAKE IT EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IN MANY AREAS, PARTICULARLY THE NORTH END.
THE RIVER RUNNING INTO THE LAKE ABOVE THE NORTHVILLE BRIDGE IS RISING RAPIDLY, CREATING MANY OF THE ISSUES ON THE NORTH END.
WE ARE AWARE LAST WEEK THERE WAS A FOOT OR MORE OF ICE, HOWEVER THE WARMING WEATHER AND THE RISING WATER HAVE CREATED A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
AGAIN THIS IS A SAFETY MESSAGE TO HOPEFULLY SAVE THE LOSS OF PROPERTY OR LIFE AND PREVENT HIGH RISK RESCUES FOR EMERGENCY PERSONNEL.
ATTACHED ARE SOME CURRENT PHOTOS OF THE LAKE CONDITION PROVIDED BY FULTON COUNTY CIVIL DEFENSE DIRECTOR/FIRE COORDINATOR STEVEN SANTA MARIA.
